Dr. Luis Enrique Casal R.
Dr. Luis Enrique Casal is a distinguished Panamanian violinist and violist, honored in 2015 as a “Remarkable Citizen of Panama” by the National Commission Pro Civic Values and Morals. As noted by The Panama News, “Panama does have a worthy classical scene, and right at the top of it we find Luis Enrique Casal.”
He holds several prominent roles, including Vice President of the Sinfonía Concertante Foundation of Panama and Honorary Academic Adviser to the Alfredo Saint Malo Music Festival. A dedicated educator, Dr. Casal teaches viola at The Juilliard School’s Music Advancement Program and also serves on the faculty of the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, and the Lucy Moses School at the Kaufman Music Center. His performance and teaching career has taken him around the world, with appearances in Argentina, the Bahamas, England, France, Japan, Italy, Romania, Spain, the United States, and Uruguay.
As an accomplished orchestral musician, Dr. Casal has served as Principal Violist of both the National Symphony of Panama and the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a co-founder of Camerata Alfredo de Saint Malo and currently serves as Concertmaster of La Camerata Washington Heights, the ADCA Orchestra, and the Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra, while also performing as Principal Violist with the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra.
Dr. Casal is actively involved in chamber music. His recent projects include performances and tours with his brother’s piano quartet, Ensemblast, and collaborations with his wife, violinist Anna Majcherczyk, as part of their Duo Majcherczyk-Casal. He is also a passionate advocate for contemporary music, having premiered works by numerous composers. In 2021, he composed 8 Etudes for Violin, commissioned by The Juilliard School for its Music Advancement Program.
